DVD
- Digital Versatile Disks [DVDs] are now
the preferred means of distributing video. DVDs are replacing
tape just like LPs were replaced by CDs in the world of music.
- There are two ways of producing a video
on DVD. The first is for small quantities (under 500 copies).
Here the DVD is burnt on a special computer based system similar
to burning a CD. The second method, which is cost effective for
quantities in excess of 500 copies involves producing a glass
master from which the copies are duplicated.
- Presently there are a number of different
systems on the market. At the moment a computer burnt DVD will
play happily on most DVD players but occasionally fail to operate
reliably on some older DVD players. This is a result ot this
fast moving evolving technology and there is no doubt these initial
problems are rapidly being overcome.
